If you’ve made it this far, thank you and welcome to my very first blog post! Never did I think I would ever start to blog but over the years I’ve learned so much from working in the beauty industry and from my clients, I thought it was about time I share my love for life and all things beauty.
Having said that, let's get right into it! I thought writing about my top favourite beauty tips and tricks would be valuable so that way you can bookmark this and always reference back at any time.
How to keep your skin dewy and soft: I cannot stress enough the importance of skin care! Over the last seven years of being in the beauty industry, I constantly get asked “how do I get my skin to look so dewy and without looking powdery when I wear makeup” and my answer always is, a good skin care routine! You could buy the best makeup out there on the market, but if you don’t take care of your skin, your makeup will not look its best. I know it can get overwhelming with the amount of skin products available today but start with this one first: invest in a good, hydrating moisturizer. This is key because it’s the base of your makeup application. I like to brush on a generous amount all over my face and let it sit for a couple minutes before I buff it into my skin. Then I like to take an oil and buff that in right after with my beauty sponge. Your skin will look so dewy and hydrated – even if you are oily, you should be hydrating your skin! Once you’ve found a moisturizer best suited for you, I recommend investing in a good eye cream and lip mask. This will complete your skin prep and now your skin is ready for some makeup!
How to get mascara off your lids: How many of you have applied your mascara just as you were finishing up your makeup, then all of a sudden you poke your eye or blink and get mascara on your skin? This has happened to me numerous times but the first thing you want to do when you get mascara on your eyelids or skin is nothing! Yes, you read that correctly, nothing. Let the mascara completely dry before you grab a spoolie (looks like a mascara wand) and then gently flake away the mascara. This works like a dream!
Flyaways? No problem: I’ve always had some flyaways due to having natural frizzy curly hair and if your hair is anything like mine, it can be a pain sometimes. Use a clear brow gel or a disposable mascara wand with hair wax and apply right on the hairs you want to tame. The tiny wand will grab all the little hairs and acts as a little magic wand.
How to apply your blush: I’ve learned this trick working at MAC - Simply apply your blush to the apples of your cheeks (I like to smile when I do this) and carry the excess product on your brush onto the top bridge of your nose. Adding a little bit across your nose mimics the look of a natural suntan and gives a youthful look.
How to make your lashes look long and full: This is another trick that I have done for YEARS, so simple, yet I’ve come across many clients who always seem to skip this step. Use a lash curler first before applying any product to your lashes. This will help curl them upwards and allow for a better application. I then like to apply a lash primer, wait till it gets a little tacky, and then apply my mascara. I promise you this will help give your lashes the lift they need and give you the best results!
How to make your lips look bigger: To help keep things looking natural but fuller, follow your natural lip line on the outside and over line the middle only. Focus on the cupids bow and center of your bottom lip. Then, apply your lipstick. If you want to take it up another notch, add a gloss in the center of your lips and drag the wand slightly over your lip liner – this will give the illusion of a bigger pout!
